It was a shock for rescuers, Petey getting so sick, so fast – and just DAYS before his arrival. But Parvovirus doesn't discriminate with unvaccinated dogs, regardless of health or age. The good news is that he is bright and alert so vets are hopeful that this resilient boy will overcome his battle with Parvo and make a full recovery. He remained stable overnight, although his symptoms and pain have continued to persist – as to be expected with this horrible virus. For now, Petey remains in the hospital on IV fluids and receiving around-the-clock care; he has been a 24-hour patient in intensive care for over 8 days in a specialized facility, and he was hospitalized at another ER for 5 days prior to that.
While Petey has overcome the hardest part of his battle with Parvovirus, however, his hospital stay has now been extended even longer. This poor boy cannot catch a break; sweet Petey was on the mend, but then his doctors noticed some alarming ulcers that began forming under his neck and in his mouth. He has been scheduled for a dermatologist consultation to see why these suddenly appeared, and he will remain in the ER while he waits.
Donations are desperately needed to help save Petey's life, and rescuers really need our help. We are praying for our precious guy. The aggressive treatments required to tackle Parvovirus get very expensive, very fast, and right now, he needs all the help he can get. Every penny helps so much, and goes a long way in supporting Petey's ongoing medical care. We will update everyone as soon as more is known about this precious boy's condition. Thank you for your kindness and support.

8-month-old Petey was just days away from making his debut to Maryland and officially join the Key to Lion's Heart Rescue family, when suddenly, his whole body went limp and he began to vomit violently. He spiked a fever within a matter of hours. His gums went from a healthy brink pink to grey (yes, GREY). He was so lethargic that he could hardly move. And now, instead of making his scheduled journey north, Petey remains in South Carolina, where he was rushed to the ER.
